Jul 9, 2010, Where to eat good chicken rice in Chinatown?
The best place to try out Singapore signature dish chicken rice is in Chinatown. Head to Chinatown Complex level 2 where the food centre is located. My favourite stall is Heng Ji Chicken Rice. However, the chances are you won't be able to locate it as the food centre is too big for one to get around. If that's the case, don't be disappointed as you can easily find many other chicken rice stalls around and most of them are as good.
If you are a foodie and want to try one of the best chicken rice in Singapore, Tian Tian Chicken Rice(unit no. #01-10) at Maxwell Road Food Centre is your best bet.

Jun 21, 2010, Getaway from Singapore: A Trip to Bali Island
Just came back from a short vacation in Bali. It was a wonderful trip for families of nine. If you have more than a week vacation in Singapore and run out of ideas on what to do, make a short trip to Bali.
What my family enjoys most is white water rafting. To us, it's very adventurous and challenging. Of course, you got to visit the various temples. We visited three in one afternoon and never get tired of it because there is shopping to be done around each of these temples. We got most of our souvenir and little handicrafts while visiting these temples.
Another fun things to do is exploring Bali arts and crafts at shops along the roadside. We made frequent stops whenever we spotted those little shops (many of them) along the roadside on the way to our next destination.

Jun 10, 2010, How to shop tax free in Singapore?
In most cases, 7% GST are levied on all goods and services consumed in Singapore. Premier Tax Free and Global Refund are two service providers in Singapore processing GST Refunds for tourists.
When you shop around in Singapore, especially in Marina Bay, Bugis or Orchard Road Shopping Malls, take note of the signs 'Premier Tax Free' or 'Tax Free' which are being displayed in some of the shops. As a tourist, these shops may issue you a Premier Refund Voucher or Global Refund Shopping Cheque if your purchase is more than S$100.
When leaving Singapore, you then show your vouchers or cheques together with the items, receipts and passport to the Customs officer at the GST Refund Inspection Counter to claim your refunds.
Jun 9, 2010, Why you need to know about GST in Singapore?
What's GST? It's an abbreviation for Goods and Services Tax. It is implemented in Singapore on 1 Apri 1994 at a rate of 3% and increased over the years to the current rate of 7%. As a consumer, you pay GST for all goods and services consumed in Singapore. However, only businesses with a turnover of S$1 million per year need to register for GST. That's to say, a business be it a barber shop or grocery shop don't charge you GST if its turnover don't exceed a million per year.
In most cases, the listed price of any items should already included GST. For clarification, you should always ask the salesperson before negotiating the price or paying for the goods purchased.

Apr 29, 2010, Cost of Vacation in Singapore: Budget Per Day
How much would be needed per day for a budget vacation in Singapore? I have answered this question many times in Q&A sites and it still being asked now and then. So, I thought it would be good to show it here.
I would say an estimated budget of S$50-150/day should be enough based on the following estimated expenses:
1. Food
You should eat like what most Singaporeans do, have your meals in hawker centres, coffee shops or food courts. The food in these outlets are cheap and yummy. Generally, an estimated budget of S$5 to 10 is more than enough for a meal including drink.
2. Accommodation
The cheapest accommodation you could find in Singapore is around Little India. The area was served by two MRT stations: Little India and Farrer Park. So, it's very convenient. Apart from that, you are just minutes walk to most of the Attractions in Little India.
Kerbau Hotel (for a standard room) 54 Kerbau Road, Singapore 219178, Tel: 6297 6668 Rates: $70
The Inncrowd Backpackers' Hostel (for dormitory room) 73 Dunlop Street, Singapore 209401, Tel: 6296 9169 Rates: S$20
3. Transport
Buy yourself a Singapore Tourist Pass for S$8/day from the following MRT stations: Orchard, Chinatown, Little India etc. It will enable you to have unlimited travel around Singapore and most tourist attractions on public buses and MRT trains.
4. Singapore Attraction Tickets
Generally the admission charges for most attractions are range from S$5 to S$20, few exceptions are the ticket prices for Sentosa Choice Packages and Universal Studios Singapore.
